The folks at KABC TV must be salivating over the prospect of their first OJ-Like Car Chase Feed from their new High Definition Helo (the second one from a company called Helinet Aviation Services.)
“You can almost read lips” from the copter's hi-def feed, said J.T. Alpaugh, chief technology officer for Helinet."
Boasting stability with zoom at maximum with a 40X lense--this should bring graphically-new meaning to moments like this comment from a chase yesterday: "adding that the impact tore the Honda in half."
This will be the second High Definition Helicopter in use in the US...with Denver's NBC-Affiliate KUSA-TV being the first.
Further, we now have five cities in America with HD Local News capability.
599 Days to go until the Analog Shutdown? We have some work to do. And it appears that Helinet should sell a few more of The Cineflex© HiDEF© platforms. Maybe they'll give us a list. Grin. There must be a couple more major local news-teams that look forward to covering their little-burg's next riot from above (cue Ride of the Valkyries) in 1080i-glory. Ya think?
Here are a couple of 1080i Shots From downtown L.A. Via Helinet's Cineflex HiDef. Open them in a new window for the real deal. The guy in an office? Imagine a helicopter at 40X zoom? That's how he looks.
For those of you that own Quicktime Pro? Here's a short clip that the rightmost image is taken from...
