Today’s NYT (via the Winston-Salem Journal to avoid your having to register) has the big ‘nads to put up a SCARY MONSTERS Headline.
To Wit: Ruling Fallout: Will broadcasters pull HDTV programs?
Now.
Really.
Will broadcasters cut off their noses despite their at-least-two-faces?
Oooh, my but it was scary when FM Radio came out with a separate tuner and the reel-to-reel deck could be connected and you could record three hours of music. Records were never sold again. The business of music ended then. It was totally over. It went out--not with a bang--but with an incredibly annoying hiss from that crappy tape stuff.
Then the BETA-Max VCR could record TV shows. No one watched the boob-toob from that moment onward. First run and syndication? Crashed. As a matter of fact, the Television Series Resale Biz via DVD would have been just snazzy and might have made money, if not for all of us (Bloody Pirates!) who duped each other’s tapes of M*A*S*H.
The Internet? Well… we all handed around free porn and lots of games and killed both the Adult Film Industry (worldwide) and those damnable Videogame Things (violent bitches anyway.)
Recordable CD’s? They killed the music industry. They then moved forward to destroy the movie industry with the Video-CD.
That MPEG-1, Layer 3 recording thing? Killed the music industry AGAIN!!! It had risen like a Zombie—and POW! Shot down like a mad-but-rottingly-revived dog-from hell-in its decaying second prime.
The Broadcast Flag? HDMI (in all its 12 frigging flavors?) The DisplayPort? Really. Who gives a shit? Congress maybe if they fold their cards quickly enough. But these are all protectionist measures designed to keep us from USING CONTENT like we did above… Content that was bought, and paid for (multiple times by most of us as we bought albums, tapes, CD’s, VHS versions, DVD’s, et al.)
Shut the hell up, already.
Dumbasses.
Damn.
[The preceding was a happy vent. The article mentioned at the top is actually quite EVEN, despite the headline. It even posted a quote from that rabble-rouser, Mark Cuban. Grin.]
