So, a few weeks back Toob did a piece on Gating Light Valve displays . It was a kind of a... wonder what the future holds for this -AND- this is the history--stylee piece. And Pow! Biff? Whoosh?
Flash forward to today, and HDBlog.Net (on the left there) calls attention to GLV Making An Appearance, which further links from a story by HDTV Expert that has Evans and Sutherland making GLV projectors (called Digistar3) for planetariums and domes.
<<snipped from HDTV Expert>>
Evans and Sutherland claim their GLV projector, for which they
apparently have an exclusive license to use in domed theaters and
simulators, can crank out images with 4000x4000 pixel resolution and
2,000 lumens of brightness per projector, using a 60 Hz refresh rate.
By stacking a second projector, system resolution is claimed to be 8K x
8K.<<snip>>
You can download a brochure via .pdf file for the whole Digistar 3 family of products, including projectors, lasers, crt's, dlp-flavors for small domes, et al, right here at Toob.
